musician branding

3 practical steps to clarify your message and create musician branding you love that boldly represents you, your music and your message.

1. Forget about the music.

We get caught up in the sound and genre when we try to brand which leads to overwhelm since we are often writing, performing and recording in multiple genres. Brand around your music genre also backs you into a corner if you should choose to create music of other genres in the future.

2. Make sure musician branding comes from the inside out, not the outside in.

Avoid choosing colors and fonts because they look cool or because other musicians are using them. Before looking for colors and fonts, get your why, your mission and your purpose in order. Once this is done, the rest will come easily.

3. Don’t be vanilla.

Try not to be tempted to lean toward a corporate looking brand and logo because it makes you look professional. In fact, it does the complete opposite and makes you forgettable. Your brand needs to be a supercharged magnet to bring in the right fans and repel the people who won’t like your music or get behind your message. It’s scary to be unique and inevitably, you will face rejection. Be sure to check out this video which will help you deal with haters and rejection.
