It’s Finally Cool & Legit To Be A Music Creator

It’s been a month after I did a solo episode. I wanted to update you and bring in some stuff from our new newsletter, about open rates, click rates and things. It’s been quite a busy past two weeks with the newsletter and other life happenings such as trips and stuff.

The newsletter comes out Monday through Friday where I pull in things I’ve learned over the years from business, clients and experiences. We also highlight specific artists on Women of Substance.

I wanted to highlight a particular newsletter issue we did back in August that did really well. The subject matter is called “It’s Finally Cool and Legit To Be A Music Creator” released on August 28, 2024. There, I talk about the rise of the creator economy, how it exploded in the past few years, and how it benefits musicians like you and me.

When I became a creator 10 years ago, no one knew what being a creator meant — trying to make money creating content and building an audience I can monetize. I felt weird that I was doing it in secret before it became profitable. I also took a chance on being a creator and chose not to go back to my job.

In 2015, I created a video about uncomfortable moments around the Thanksgiving table with family where well-meaning relatives ask you about how hard it was to earn from your music. It hurts me deeply to think about musicians whose passions die during these conversations.

With the rise of the creator economy, even the most old school traditionalists can’t argue with statistics showing that more than 2 million professional individual creators do it full time, and more than 46.7 million do it part time.

It’s finally cool and legit to be a creator!

I hope this encourages you to join our newsletter.
