Time flies when you’re having fun and here at Women of Substance Radio & Podcast, it has been a fun-filled 10 years! With this milestone, I found it appropriate to share the marketing lessons I have learned over the years.
A music podcast is about sharing things with other people and gaining traction. Not starting out as a music podcast, Women of Substance has successfully morphed into one over the last 10 years. Today, I announced that Women of Substance would no longer broadcast as a radio station. Continuing as a music podcast means that we will continue to grow and people can listen whenever or where ever they want on almost any platform. Radio stations are not as easily shareable and accessible.

Tips to promote your music podcast or business
- cast a wide net
- don’t focus on one platform, even though tempted
- people consume music differently
- give the audience options to connect on different social media channels
Ask the audience to share
- make sure the content is shareable
- put the right links in the right places
- continue to share links long after things are released
- if it makes sense to share an old music podcast on a new one, I include the link
Get reviews
- written reviews are better than “star ratings”
- don’t be afraid to ask for a review in exchange for a reward
- ask peers for reviews
Involve others with your music
- collaborate with others
- invite them to share that they are working with you
- use your branding with an image of you and the person you collaborate with
Never stop testing
- things change over time
- always test new things
- don’t be afraid to stop doing things that aren’t working
- give things a good try before deciding if they work or not
