In this interview with Tara Shannon from Willow Sound Records, the conversation revolves around understanding oneself as an artist and how to attract perfect fans. Tara shares her background story, starting with piano lessons and studying at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She later became a jazz saxophone player and attended McGill University in Montreal.
Initially, Tara wanted to pursue Music Therapy but was drawn to music as a healing tool. She wrote her first song for her cousin’s wedding, which she now jokes about in her workshop. This experience led her to fall in love with songwriting and decided to pursue a career in recording.
Despite not knowing much about the business, Tara began chasing a record deal and recording her music. When she got an off-record deal, she had three young children at home and couldn’t be on the road for two years due to family and friends. This realization led her to focus on songwriting and becoming a better songwriter because she could do it from home.
Tara was not surprised when she turned down the record deal, but she didn’t think about it through their lens. Most people would ask for a specific location to sign, but she didn’t see it as a fit. She believes that being a mom was her first calling or love, and she focused on becoming a better songwriter because she could do it from home.
In conclusion, Tara Shannon’s journey as an artist has been filled with challenges and opportunities, but she has always been dedicated to helping others understand themselves and attract their perfect fans.
